We have a busy week coming up. Next Wednesday, October 5th, all 3rd graders will be taking the Reading OAA test. A letter was sent home to my class on Friday from Mrs. Walker about the test. It is important that your child comes to school on time on Wednesday. We will be testing for 2 1/2 hours in the morning. If your child comes late that morning, they will not be allowed into the room. All students will take this test again in the Spring. A score of 400 or more is passing. I will send more information home about that when we get this first round of test scores back!
In social studies, we will finish up learning about the compass rose. We will complete a study guide together in class on Tuesday. Please help your child study for this test. They will not be able to use their study guide this time around. The bullying test also went home this week. Hopefully your child share their test with you.
Our focus this week in math is working on adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers. Many children are still struggling with "borrowing" and "carrying". Any extra practice at home on these skills would be appreciated. You can use this as your 15 minutes of daily math practice too!
Homework for next week has been updated. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Tuesday
Good evening. Just a quick update of what we've been up to this week. I sent home the graded math tests today. Please make sure you take a look at it. I will give another fact test Thursday for those kids that did not pass last week. Remember, if your child's test had a smiley face on it, they don't have to take it anymore! We are working on word stories and adding 2 and 3 digit numbers in math.
We took our bullying test today in Social Studies. They kids were allowed to use their study guide on the test today. You will see that the study guide and the test were exactly the same! If your child did not do well then they didn't read carefully and look at the study guide while taking the test. I couldn't have made it any easier. They were allowed to come up and ask me to read anything that they wanted me to. We will begin to learn about mapping skills in Social Studies this week.
Have a great night.

Calling All Volunteers!
I am looking for anyone that would like to help out in the classroom. I would like to have some parents that could come in and read with students. I could also have some volunteers work on math skills with kids. If you are interested in volunteering, I could use helpers in the morning from 10:15-11:15. You can email me at amann_e@westcler.org if you are interested.
Thanks!

A Couple More Things!
I sent home passwords today so you can log into Progress Book and follow your child's grades. You can also see when they have a missing assignment. Make sure you keep this information in a safe place!
Starting Monay, I will begin to send home Refocuses for any child that gets in trouble in class. If your child receives a refocus, they will have to bring it home and show it to you. You will need to sign it, and return it the next day. If your child does not return it the followng day, they will be calling you in the morning and telling you about their refocus!
We also started filling our marble jar! Ask your child what we can get if we fill it!
Until next time......

Great Week!
Well we finished our first "real" week of school. The kids took their spelling test, vocabulary test, and a phonics test today. I will have all tests graded and returned on Monday. This year I am not asking for you to sign and return them each week. Just know to be looking for them. I will do my best to always have them graded so they can be returned on Monday. If your child had a 100% on any of their tests, they can return the test to school, after you've seen it, and I will post in the classroom! We did take the reading comprehension test today for Charlie McButton. It was not taken as a grade. They took the test on their own, but then we went over the answers together.
I am looking to give the unit 1 math test next Friday. Check back with the Blog later next week. I am planning on reviewing for the math test on Wednesday and Thursday. Please review the study guides with them. They will also be taking an addition fact test next week, for a grade. They have to be able to score a 96% or better to pass their timed fact test.
Next week we will discuss bullying in social studies. Talk about bullying with your child at home next week.
Have a great weekend. The homework is posted for next week!
Thanks......
