Week of May 29th

Good afternoon-

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend.  It is hard to believe that we are on the final  home stretch of the year.

All graded reading and spelling tests were sent home today.

There is no more nightly reading, fluency, or nightly math sheets for homework.  I do hope that your child will continue to read each night though!

A new Family Times and spelling words did go home this week.  The vocabulary, spelling, and phonics tests will still be given on Friday.

I let the kids do their spelling homework in class today.  I will also let them do their spelling homework in class tomorrow.

I am trying to finish one more topic in science.  We are learning about life cycles.  Since we are finished with math, I can spend most of the afternoon on science.  I will be sending home a study guide tomorrow and will give the test on Friday.  If your child knows the information on the study guide, then they will do fine on the test on Friday.

As we head towards the end...please look around your house for any books that might belong to my classroom library around your house and send them in with your child.

Have a great week!

Week of May 14th

Good afternnon-

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.  I also wanted to thank all the parents that have sent in cleaning wipes and paper towels.  I really appreciate your kindness.

This week we are celebrating Right to Read Week.  Each day there is a different theme.

Monday-Wear your favorite summer hat and sunglasses.
Tuesday-  Wear flip-flops
Wednesday-  Bring your Beach Towel
Thursday-  Wear tropical clothes; leis, etc.
Friday-  Popsicle Party

Friday is also our Fit-A-Thon day.  Make sure your child wears their gym shoes to school.

We finished up unit 11 in math last week.  That was our last  Everyday Math test of the year.  We will finish the year reviewing skills that we learned.  The graded tests were sent home today.

In Reading Street-we are on a Review Week.  The spelling words for the week are on the back of the Family Times.  They are all review words-so the test should be pretty easy.  We will take our test on Friday.

All Reading Street tests were also sent home today.  Please check to see how your child did.

Interim reports went home with all students on Friday.  Please sign and return the bottom portion.

Have a great week!

Week of April 16

Good afternoon-

A little late on my update for the week.  Sorry!

It is a normal week for the most part.  All graded tests in reading and math went home on Monday.  Hopefully you had a chance to check over them.

There is a spelling test, vocabulary test, and a reading comprehension test on Friday.

In math we have been working on our division facts.  We took a practice division fact test today so you could see what your child needs to work on.  We will take a "real" one next week that will be taken as a grade.

Next week we will be taking our OAA test in Reading and in Math.  The Reading OAA is Tuesday, April 24th.  The Math OAA is Friday, April 27th.  It is very important that your child comes to school on these days.  If they arrive after the test has started, they will not be allowed into the classroom.  We will test every morning from 9:30-12:00.  We have switched our recess/lunch times for these 2 days.

We will continue to practice for the OAA in class this week and next week.  I know we have been working hard and I am sure your child will do great.

Just a reminder that our class will head to the Book Fair on Friday. Make sure that they have their money Friday morning.  There are no make-up times to go later.

Have a great night.

We will take the Unit 10 math test tomorrow.  2 study guides will come home today.  Please review them with your child.

Don't forget that they should be working on division facts right now.  We will take our first division timed fact test next week.

Thanks!

Welcome back!

We are off to a normal week.  All important papers for Reading Street were sent home today.  All tests will be on Friday.

We started a new unit in Social Studies.  We will be learning about Geography.

I am hoping to finish up unit 10 in math this week.  My plan is to give the unit 10 test on Friday.  I will see how the week goes and let you know for sure when the test will be.

Our class will visit the book fair Friday, April 20th.

Report cards for the 3rd quarter will be sent home on Friday.

Have a great week.

Week of March 26th

Good morning-

It is hard to believe it is the end of March and we will be on Spring Break next week at this time!

We are on a review unit in Reading Street this week. The Family Times is coming home today.  You will find their spelling words on the back of the Family Times this week.  The spelling test will be Friday-so make sure they are ready to go.

The kids took the reading comprehension part of the review today.  They will take the vocabulary, phonics, word analysis, and grammar test on Thursday.  They can't really "study" for the test because it is based on everything we've worked on the last 5 weeks.  We will spend some time reviewing each day though.

All graded tests from last week are being sent home today. Make sure you look to see how your child did.

It looks like we will be able to finish up our unit on Simple Machines this week.  A study guide will come home on Wednesday, and we will take the test on Friday.  If your child knows the information on the study guide, they should have no troubles passing the test on Friday.

We are also at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Reports cards will be sent home with students on April 13th.

Have a great week and a wonderful Spring Break and Easter.  I will see everyone back on April 9th!

Week of March 19th

Good afternoon-

What a beautiful weekend!

This week our story is called Fly, Eagle, Fly!  It is a folk tale.  We will work on cause and effect, summaries, and learning about prepositions.  Please look for the Family Times today to check out the vocabulary words for the week.

All graded tests went home today also.  Many kids did much better with reading comprehension this week.

We started a new behavior/work system a few weeks ago.  It is called DOJO.  The students are challenged to earn 15 points in a week.  If they do, they get 20 minutes of extra recess on Friday afternoon.  The student in our class that earns the most points for the week is our "Star Student."  Last week Liam Mitchell was our star student.  Bryan Hertel and Drazen Wilmers have also won this award.

In math we will continue to work on measurement, volume, and capacity.  On Monday's and Tuesday's we've been working on OAA test prep for math.

If your child hasn't passed their multiplication fact test yet-they need to know these before we leave for Spring Break.  We will take one more test this week, and if they don't pass they will have one more shot next week, and that will be it!

Have a great week!
Congrats to all the Ohio teams in the Sweet 16-especially UC!!!!!!
